The origin of the family Dimmers in the Netherlands is back to the Limburg area around Heijen. Ancestor is Bartholomeus (Albertus?) Dimmers, who was born in 1734 in Kleve, Germany. Kleve (German: Kleve) is the capital of Kreis Kleve in the west of the German state of North Rhine-Westfalen, ten kilometers south of Rhine in the Lower Rhine Plain and not far away from the Dutch border at Nijmegen and ‘s-Heerenberg. Later in the 19th century the sex spread further over the Netherlands and certain emigrated to America and Australia.

In addition to “our” branch, a few other branches have also been found, such as the tree from Bergen op Zoom. There seems to be no question of any relationship. Agreed: There is one Catharina Dimmers (ca.1700) born in Kleve and dying in 1727 in Bergen op Zoom marries Jacobus van Buirich, a soldier stationed in the Bergen op Zoom garrison. Sara Dimmers is one of the dimmers in the Netherlands who must have been born around 1555 in The Hague and moved to Alkmaar.
